I’ve been editing a lot of manuscripts lately about the possibility of achieving your goals. You heard it—put your dreams out there, and they can come true. The latest even says you can reach your goals through visualization and having the right thoughts, and without much effort. I would like to believe the visualization and thought part, but I have to admit I find it almost impossible to believe it doesn’t take much effort.
I’ve believed similarly for a while, but I confess as I got older, I have found it harder to believe. But then there was Diana Nyad yesterday, telling—and more important, showing—us it’s possible to achieve our goals and dreams no matter our age. So here’s what I visualize.
I’m sitting on the porch of my rural home, sipping tea and eating bagels and cream cheese (both homemade, of course). I’m taking a break from editing cookbooks. Oh yes, I’ve become a cookbook editor. I also edit other food-related books. I even write some. The Enabling Cook opened doors for me in food-related publishing. Thank you, readers.
Lying at my feet are my English bulldogs, Caerphilly and Wensleydale. The cats are inside. My egg-layers are clucking as they play in the yard. The ducks are enjoying a dip in the kiddie pool, and my three goats are just hanging out, doing what goats do.
The house is a two-story farmhouse, utilitarian rather than fancy. Most of the first floor is a kitchen. The showpiece is a Aga Cooker like this one (well, maybe not the color). And yes, the kitchen has those cabinets and lots and lots of workspace. Did I say lots of workspace?
Besides the editing, I’ve expanded the jam/jelly, bread, cheese, pickle, sausage line. I have a tiny spot in the year-round farmers’ market. I also give lessons in my home kitchen. The mail-order business is growing. Lots of people seem to love my Nanny Goat line of goat milk products. I take care of the goat milk cheese, yogurt, and butter, while a colleague takes care of the goat milk soap and lotions.
Well, that is what I visualize for me. And now I have an almost overwhelming desire to watch Baby Boom for the gazillionth time.
I don’t know if this works, but I figure it can’t hurt. What do you visualize for yourself?© Copyright 2013 Ida Walker, All rights Reserved. Written For: The Enabling Cook
